GLOBAL CITY MEDIA CENTER
For the past decade Global City Media Center (GCMC) has actively offered scholarships, affordable space rentals and equipment rentals to create empowering experiences for the youth of North San Diego County. Global City Media Center has partnered with Vista Community Clinic’s youth program called Resilience. Members are mentored by formerly incarcerated community mentors to provide hope and resilience to youth and young adults on juvenile probation and the North County community. Through our collective efforts, GCMC was able to host Resilience for five years through volunteers and donors. Recently, Resilience was able to expand and acquired their own location to service more participants. At the start of the program, Resilience graduated one participant. Prior to their departure Resilience was able to graduate over 10 participants every six months. GCMC is also responsible for the inspiring, nurturing, and launching of young creative careers such as;
DJ Inspire: currently an A&R for BPM Supreme and Tour DJ running her own brand
DJ Henry: currently operate his own mobile DJ service company
Letty Martinez: Radio personality for Power 106 and Brown Bag Podcast
Jay Diaz: Producer of Big Facts Podcast on Revolt TV
MEDIAMAKERZ.ORG
Our Affiliate program MediaMakerz.org offers career training and education to students twelve years-old and older specializing in visual arts, audio arts and entrepreneurship. This program provides accessibility to the industry. One huge obstacle for young creators to overcome is the cost to enter the industry. We have also identified the disparity of equity in the digital media space in regards to race, gender and ethnicity. We believe the cost to enter and the low numbers of participating minorities and other underserved communities are linked. We solve the issue of cost to enter by creating partnerships with school districts to bring the cost of our camps down to $0 for our students. This creates an equal opportunity for all interested parties regardless of race, gender or ethnicity to receive hands-on mentorship and training in a rapidly growing market. At the program launch in February 2021, we started with a one (6) week cohort in 1 school, 1 instructor and 4 attending students. To date we have expanded into 4 schools and 2 districts, servicing over 400 students in person and online. We have hired 2 more instructors and 4 interns who’ve graduated from our Industry Pro Camps. We’ve placed 2 graduating students with paying positions on production crews with DreaMachine and have mentored 5 of our graduated students into entrepreneurship and independent contracting. We’ve partnered with 2 district instructors and trained them in our educational principles so they could support our programs in the classroom. Our staff spends valuable time connecting with each one of our students on a personal level. Everything we do at Media Makerz is focused on the experience of the student.
